Salt Marshes
Preservered from devolment in the 13th and 17th centuries these areas of natural water meadows varying in size from 100 to 300 hectares are to be found all across the Marais Poitevin. Given to the communes after the Revolution they are today used as common grazing land.
Today there are 2000 hectares of common grazing land in the marais Poitevin and each spring the meadows of Poire sur Velluire along with the others are opened to livestock farmers. Horses, geese and cattle prosper and enjoy the rich grazing till autumn.
