The Beach at Les Conches in the South Vendee

The beach at Les Conches spreads as far as the eye can see southwards towards la Terriere and northwards towards La Rocher. This is an amazing expanse of beach the Atlantic ocean caresses its golden shores, and is backed first by sand dunes and then by forests of pine and Holm oak which were planted to stabilize the dunes.

The main car park is almost on the beach and there are
a few beach side cafes open during the summer season. Further back in the village there are some shops for beach goods and a good surfing shop as well as cafes and Restaurants.

All year round you will find surfers on the beach as the surf here can be as good as anywhere on the Atlantic Coast of the Vendée.
In all seasons the beach is very popular for sea angling especially after storms, and at low tide there are cockles to be gathered not to mention that great pastime of beachcombing for shells and driftwood.

Behind the dunes, amongst the forest runs a tarmac track which at intervals has openings to the beach. The farther away from the car park the longer the walk to the beach, but on arriving, after a pleasant stroll through the forest, the less crowded the beach that one finds. It should be noted that the area half way between La Terriere and Les Conches, though not an official nudist beach, has been very popular for many years amongst those who desire an all over tan. There is a very good track for walking between the dunes and the forest which is part of the coastal walkway that runs virtually the whole length of the Vendée.
