Beaches
of the Vendee
Sion-sur-l'Ocean
One of the few cliff areas in the Vendee is to be found at Sion-sur-l'Ocean, and there are a few sandy beaches in the sheltered coves.
Heading north from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, on the Corniche Vendéenne (coastal road), the low cliffs are punctuated by small sheltered coves and beaches. There is reasonable car parking along the Corniche and it is ideal for a pleasant walk.

At
Sion-sur-l'Ocean the Plage Bussoleries has surveillance during the high season,
and just off shore at the southern end of the beach, are the Cinq Pineaux rocks
which produce spectacular crashing sprays during stormy weather.
La Grande
Plage at the northern end of Sion sur l'Ocean is a wide expanse of sand with
dunes to the rear, it is the start of the long stretch of beaches that include
La Parée Préneau, La Pège and Les Mouettes leading up to St Jean de
Mont.
There is beach surveillance during high season together with a school of sailing.
